Bigfork School District 38
Child Nutrition & Food Services
The Bigfork School District makes breakfast and lunch available to all students attending our schools. The food service program operates using federal funds under authority of the National School Lunch Act and the Child Nutrition Act and through minimum fees charged to participants.
Free lunches are available to children for low income families. A reduced price lunch is also available to children from families of limited means.
At the beginning of the school year, the district sends a letter to each family explaining the school lunch program along with applications for free or reduced price lunches. A new application needs to be filled out every year.
School district employees prepare nutritious lunches on site. Each elementary student can choose their own lunch combination of one entree, fresh and prepared fruits and vegetables, and milk. In addition, a variety of extra foods are available daily for middle and high school students. These items may be purchased in a limited number of combinations for the standard lunch price or individually to supplement a cold lunch brought from home or to add to the standard school lunch. All of these foods are economically priced and offer a welcome alternative to a sack lunch.
